Guests arriving to Raf Simons’ Dior show entered through a mountain of blue delphiniums shipped in to decorate the Dior tent. Once you entered, you will find yourself in a white expanse of a space: shiny floor and tented ceiling. There was Raf Simons backstage, talking about keeping things simple and quiet: “I feel like doing something calm, calm and beautiful and sensitive and romantic, I didn’t want to embellish. So I was thinking about the South of France—rainbows and the simple things. And there’s a bit of Victoriana: something of that film Picnic at Hanging Rock. With a slight sexual undertone of darkness.”
Since it is a Spring/Summer collection, it is obvious to expect fresh & light colors. Well, for Dior SS16, Simons adopted, in the majority of his designs, white, navy and black. It was all about feminine delicate daywear for women inspired by lingerie. The reason why he uses the light and sheer fabric is to let the woman feel free in Summer time.He paired a scalloped cotton tops and shorts that formed a pristine foundation throughout the lineup showed through the pastel transparency of striped organdy dresses, some with poetic lantern sleeves.Once more, The Masculine-Feminine look made an appearance on the Dior Runway: Personally, this is one of my favorite looks and I think it is very convenient for a working woman. The item that stole my heart was the jackets that exaggerated the shoulders in a very elegant way and skimmed the body and specially the one with flourish 3-D flowers. Now let’s move to the shoes: For SS16 , Simon decided to bring back pointy shoes . Actually, I’m still not sure about them. I have a love/hate feeling if we can say.
Not so much in the clothes as at the necks, which were bound with tight scarves and chokers, each carrying a single jewel and dangling a metal tag, some of which read 1947, the date of Dior’s revolutionary New Look collection. Dior is one place where fresh summer options will be found.
